SportyBet Ghana Payment Methods Compared — MoMo, Bank, USSD (Full 2026 Guide)
All deposit and withdrawal methods at a glance
SportyBet Ghana supports four primary deposit/withdrawal channels: MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money, and USSD. There is no card-based deposit option in Ghana (regulatory choice — Ghana’s online betting payments are MoMo-centric). Bank EFT is also not supported directly.
Side-by-side: which method to use
| Method | Min deposit | Min withdrawal | Avg deposit | Avg withdrawal | Customer fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MTN MoMo | GH₵ 1 | GH₵ 5 | 4 sec | 12 min | 0% |
| Telecel Cash | GH₵ 1 | GH₵ 5 | 8 sec | 22 min | 0% |
| AirtelTigo Money | GH₵ 1 | GH₵ 5 | 14 sec | 30 min | 0% |
| USSD *170*82# | GH₵ 1 | GH₵ 5 | 10-30 sec | Same as network | 0% |
Use whatever network your primary SIM is on. The speed differences are real but small — switching SIMs just for SportyBet is not worth it. MTN is fastest if you happen to have multiple SIMs and have to pick one.
Why no card deposits?
Bank-card deposits to gambling sites in Ghana are limited for two regulatory reasons: (1) the Bank of Ghana’s restrictions on online gambling card transactions, and (2) merchant acquirers’ reluctance to underwrite gambling-related chargebacks. The result is that 95%+ of SportyBet transactions in Ghana flow through MoMo. The remaining 5% use voucher-based top-ups (rare).
Internationally, SportyBet supports cards in some markets (e.g. Nigeria), but the Ghana-specific app and website route everything through MoMo.
No fees on any method — explained
All three mobile-money networks operate a “merchant-paid” fee model for SportyBet: the network charges SportyBet a small percentage (typically 1-1.5%) per transaction, and the customer pays zero. This is the standard model for licensed gambling merchants in Ghana — operators pass on the fee to maintain customer-acquisition velocity.
If you ever see a fee on a SportyBet payment screen in Ghana, screenshot it and contact support. That would be a bug, not the documented behaviour.
The 10% winnings tax was repealed in April 2025
Ghana repealed the 10% withholding tax on betting winnings in April 2025, along with the E-Levy on mobile money. SportyBet’s withdrawal screens now show the gross amount — what you see is what you receive in your MoMo wallet.
Limits by method
- Deposit minimums: GH₵ 1 across all methods.
- Deposit max per transaction: GH₵ 10,000 (MoMo merchant limit).
- Withdrawal minimum: GH₵ 5 across all methods.
- Withdrawal max per transaction: GH₵ 10,000.
- Daily transaction cap: GH₵ 50,000 (verified accounts can request higher).
When you’ll hit a KYC check
KYC is triggered automatically by:
- First cumulative withdrawal above GH₵ 2,000 in 24 hours.
- First cumulative deposit above GH₵ 5,000 in 24 hours.
- Suspicious pattern detection (e.g. multiple deposits from different MoMo numbers).
- Random compliance sampling.
KYC requires uploading a government ID and a recent utility bill (or Ghana Card). Takes 2-3 business days to process. After verification, future transactions don’t re-trigger checks unless flagged again.
USD, EUR, crypto?
SportyBet Ghana operates only in Ghanaian Cedi (GH₵). USD/EUR deposits are not supported. There is no crypto deposit option in the Ghana version — for crypto-friendly sportsbooks see SportyBet vs 1xBet (1xBet supports crypto, but verify its GCG licence status).
